Macrobiotic Diet

By Keelin Orla at 2010-08-20 23:54:39
All fluids should be taken as infrequently as possible, since they are very yin, especially tea, coffee, colas and sweetened juices. Tea made from fresh herbs, and spring water are thought to be the most balanced and acceptable beverages. Mr. Ohsawa gave a special recipe for such a tea.

Macrobiotic diet focuses on these balancing acts of intakes. Yin foods, among other things are ones that grow in warm climate, foods that contain more water. While Yang foods are ones that grow in cold climate and are dryer. Remember "Taking all things in moderation"? "Anything excessive or too much is bad"? Macrobiotics is focusing on eliminating unbalanced diet and promoting higher well being, it also teaches us to chew our food completely and eat only when hungry.

Macrobiotic diets in its modern form was first spread through the world by Mr. George Ohwasa (1897 - 1966), that after becoming acquainted with this way of thinking (he learned it from two of Mr Ishizuka's disciples: Manabu Nishibata and Shojiro Goto) at the age of eighteen in several months cured himself of a number "incurable" sickness, including a terminal tuberculosis.

Anyone who goes on a Macrobiotic Diet should eat around 50%-60% of grains and 35% of vegetables. The balance of 25 is divided between fish or marine creatures, beans and sprouts. It is necessary to observe one simple rule - only eat when you feel hungry! The basic premise of the Macrobiotics Diets is that to be successful in achieving perfect health and lose the unwanted fat, a proper balance of the yin and yang should be sought.

The largest element of your diet is going to consist of nutritious and healthy whole grains. You'll essentially be cutting out all of the junk from your diet, which includes processed foods and white breads which provide little to no nutritional value. You will be able to occasionally indulge in some pasta or something of that nature but only once a week or so to keep your body as healthy as possible. Whole grains will account for 50%-60% of your total calories.

Fruits, vegetables, cereals, nuts, rice, and beans are the basic elements of a Yang and Yin diet, all of which are considered natural and neutrally well balanced. However, foods that are extremely Yang naturally, or excessively Yin by nature, are rarely eaten, or not at all. Overly Yin products examples are tropical fruit, coffee, dairy products, sugar, honey and alcohol, while, very Yang food products include meat, dairy products such as hard cheeses, eggs, and poultry.

It's believed that many of the longer-lived cultures in the world throughout history subscribed to this way of eating - the Incas, and the people of the Chinese Han Dynasty, for example. Over time, the lifestyle and way of eating made its way to the West and although it's hardly the most popular eating plan people follow these days, it certainly has its followers.
