Postpartum Weight Loss

The processing of food allows the calories or sugars to be rapidly absorbed into your bloodstream, flooding the blood with sugar. It will either be burned for energy or stored for maintenance. Usually your body uses a combination of both sugar and fat to burn for fuel. When your body is overwhelmed by sugars from processed carbohydrates, you burn the sugar first and store the fat.

Postpartum weight loss is essential because, the added weight that you put on during pregnancy is not the kind of fat your body finds easy to store or utilize. This particular fat increases body mass unnecessarily and slows down muscle metabolism. This fat if not removed, can lead to deposition in the tissues which cause complications as time goes by.

It's long been known amongst new mothers that that breastfeeding can make losing the postpartum weight much easier. The concept is simple - when you are breastfeeding, you are still providing nourishment to your baby and as a result, you body uses more calories.By eating healthy and not going overboard, the extra calories used by feeding baby will work towards slimming you down fast. Also, breastfeeding in the early postpartum weeks can encourage your tummy to have mild muscle contractions that squeeze your stomach muscles back in to shape.

However postpartum weight loss is not just the only advantage. Postnatal fitness also helps to boost up the circulation and relieve many of the discomforts of the mother. Workouts release endorphins in your brain, hence the best way to prevent depression after pregnancy. Also, exercising and maintaining a healthy way of life is a great example for your family. To take full advantage of all of these benefits, it's very important to have a healthy and well balanced diet.

The first thing to remember is that "You JUST had a BABY!" so give yourself some time. It took you 9 months to gain the weight, it may take you that long to lose it. Sometimes though, you may not lose all of the pounds you gained, but you may lose all of the inches (if that makes sense). Most women find that their bodies have changed after having a baby. Usually you are more curvy than before...which can be a good thing! So remember, take it slow, and don't be so hard on yourself. Post natal weight loss may come easy for some, but not always for everyone.

Be careful with eating too many starchy root vegetables like carrots and potatoes. These veggies, while still a better choice than potato chips, can hinder weight loss with their high starch content. Also, keep in mind that corn is a high-starch grain, NOT a vegetable, and should be treated as such when dieting. For serious postpartum weight loss, avoid eating too much of these types of starchy food.

When was the last time you had a really good belly laugh? Laughter is great medicine. You can't laugh and feel sad at the same time. Go ahead and try it. It's impossible! If you have a toddler, tune into their jokes. Laugh when they laugh and you'll feel better in no time. People don't laugh because they are happy. They're happy because they laugh.
