Yogurt is milk that has been fermented with good bacteria or probiotics, most commonly lactobacilli bulgaricus and lactobacilli thermophilus. The presence of these good bacteria in our intestines bring 3 key benefits of yogurt, including increased B vitamins, improved digestion, and enhanced immune system. Because of its many benefits, natural health proponents suggest that yogurt is one of those health foods that we should consume everyday.

Since yogurt is rich with probiotics, it helps improve food digestion and absorption. Good digestion and absorption will prevent you from experiencing hyperactive bowel movements and constipation. Yogurt also helps lactose intolerant individuals. It also lowers your risk of getting inflammatory bowel diseases like Ulcerative Colitis and Crohn's disease.

It can also be easily made at home by heating the milk to a little more that luke warm (say 45°C) and adding a little (1 Tbsp) of yogurt to it. Stir and keep it undisturbed in a warm place for 6-7 hours or until set. However if you don't have any at home, you can buy yogurt culture packs from the supermarket and follow the instructions given, to make a wonderful yogurt at home.

Allergies: Since probiotics affect the entire skin surface, which includes every area that has contact with the outside world, we can safely say that what can improve the digestive system can improve our nasal passages. Studies have shown that babies who eat yogurt and take in probiotics from as young as 3 months of age, have a better chance to avoid many allergies, especially eczema.

Yogurt is easy to make at home and can be used in many different recipes. Smoothies are delicious when yogurt is added to the recipe. Also you can use it to make yogurt cheese, or a drink with lime juice and honey, herbal breads and dough for tart shells. Soak fresh ground wheat in water and a little yogurt overnight to neutralize the phytic acid in the wheat that inhibits digestion. It gives a wonderful sour flavor to breads!

Yogurt is an extremely customizable snack. You can add any fruit, nut, seed or even honey to spice it up. Yogurt is great on most carb foods such as baked potatoes and curry on rice. It even helps to make desserts a little bit more healthy.Yogurt is a great weight loss snack because it helps you feel fuller for longer. You will actually end up eating less calories during your next meal if you snack on yogurt.

Yoghurt comes forward as a prebiotic food which is a champion when it comes to boosting the body's immune system. It is a storehouse of protein, calcium, Vitamin B12, Vitamin B6 and riboflavin. Its nutritional value exceeds even that of milk. Yoghurt targets gastrointestinal infections and cures them without the need of antibiotics. It is also beneficial in conditions of diarrhoea. It is also a heart-friendly snack because daily consumption of as little as 100gm of yoghurt aids in lowering LDL cholesterol and increasing the good HDL cholesterol.Studies reveal that foods rich in calcium inversely affect body fat. So increase in consumption of yoghurt boosts weight loss.
